I nodded, though I hesitated before speaking. 

“Gregor used to be with Sparco Racing Team,” I explained. “I used to be an avid fan of the team myself.” 

Before Gregor could elaborate further, I interrupted him. 

“I mean, I used to follow the team closely,” I added hastily, trying to downplay my past as a racer. 

I wasn’t ready to reveal that part of my life to Leo just yet. 

regor glanced at me with a touch of confusion, but Leo’s frown deepened. “Liza?” he echoed. 

“That’s an alias I use when I’m chasing stars,” I said, trying to steer the conversation away from my racing history. 

It was a flimsy explanation, but it seemed to satisfy Leo for the moment. 

I took Gregor aside, eager to have a private conversation. 

“Let’s talk,” I said, leading him away from Leo. 

Once we were out of earshot, Gregor’s face turned serious. 

“After you retired, things went downhill fast for us,” he began. “A club called Flash Lighter Racing emerged out of nowhere. They’re financially powerful and have poached our drivers and staff. They’ve even used questionable methods to gather intel on tracks and competitors. Sparco Racing Team is now on the brink of bankruptcy.” 

My heart sank at his words. 

I noticed that the team wasn’t as glamorous as it once was, but I hadn’t realized how dire the situation had become. 

“Is there anything I can do to help?” I asked, my voice filled with concern.

“There are very few riders willing to come to our team, but we shouldn’t let someone like that in. Good looking women like her are just there to show off. Why bring someone like that into the team?” 

The tension in the air was palpable as Gregor and I walked back to where the team members were gathered. 

Their eyes were fixed on me with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. 

I could feel their gaze piercing through me, and the murmur of their voices made it clear that they were discussing me. 

The tall man who had been most critical of me was now being bombarded by the others. 

“Hey, ease up on her,” one of them said. “Even if she’s not at her best, it’s still good to have her around. We need all the support we can get.” 

“Yes,” another added, “it’s rare to have a female racer in the team. Let’s give her a chance before making judgments.” 

Their words seemed like they were defending me, but their eyes told a different story.
