Chapter 13
Upon arriving in Maveris, Loretta stepped out of the airport terminal and instantly spotted her longed–for father. John, who looked gentle and refined.
She dropped her suitcase and rushed toward him, “Dadr
John opened his arms wide, catching her as she leaped into him Passersby couldn’t help but smile at the heartwarming
scene.
John’s assistant hurried over to pull Loretta’s suitcase closer.
Feeling the familiar warmth, tears streamed down Loretta’s cheeks. “Dad.”
Hearing her choked voice, John felt a pang of sadness. “Sweetie, I’m sorry for what happened. When we get back, Bruno will pay for this.”
Loretta shook her head in his embrace. “It’s not about him; I just missed you so much.”
In her previous life, a month after her engagement to Bruno, John had said he was going out one night, only for Malcolm to return him as a corpse. At the time, Malcolm had said nothing, and Loretta instinctively felt he was responsible for John’s
death.
It was not until she was dying that she realized her father hadn’t been killed by Malcolm but had been poisoned by Bruno and Amy, dying right before Malcolm.
Malcolm had been panicked. At that time, the Lindsey and Broderick families had been fighting over a major project, and the Lindsey family had won in the end. Loretta had refused to listen to any explanations, so Malcolm had remained silent.
Thinking of this made Loretta’s heart ache. “Dad, I’m so sorry.”
Sorry for not realizing until the end that my so–called revenge was actually helping my enemies deal with the man who had gone mad trying to avenge me after my death, she thought
Feeling Loretta’s trembling shoulders, John’s eyes reddened with concern; he believed it was all because of Bruno.
Breathing heavily with frustration, he said, “Baby girl, don’t cry. We’ll buy tickets back home right away, and I’ll teach that brat a lesson.”
Loretta shook her head again but stepped out of his embrace. They were at a bustling international airport, and they had attracted quite a bit of attention.
Wiping away her tears and looking at John, who was very much alive, Loretta smiled, sniffling as she spoke. Til handle the situation with Bruno and Amy. I just wanted to see you. I want to stay here with you until you finish your work, and then we’ll go back together.”
John studied Loretta’s face, still unconvinced that she didn’t have feelings for Bruno. He thought she was just pretending to be strong. Gently ruffling her hair, he said, “Alright, let’s get this work done in the next couple of days. After that, I’ll take you out to have some fun before we head back.”
Loretta nodded. “Okay.”
John had come to Maveris to develop the local jewelry market and was planning to open a jewelry store in a large shopping center in downtown Meridian. Over the next few days, he would be negotiating with local officials to handle the various procedures needed for the business.
John first took Loretta back to the hotel where he was staying, and since he was in the presidential suite, she didn’t need to book another room.

Today, John had a meeting scheduled with a local official to discuss paperwork, so he told Loretta, “Sweetheart, you can rest here at the hotel for now. Once you’re refreshed, I’ll take you out for a nice dinner tonight.”
He was planning to use this time to meet with the official.
Seeing John again felt surreal to Loretta; she was afraid that if she blinked, the dream would shatter. She didn’t want to be alone in the hotel, so she quickly insisted, “Dad, I want to go with you.”
After saying this, she grabbed her suitcase and headed toward her room, saying. “Wait for me! I’ll change my clothes.”
Without giving John a chance to object, she shut the door behind her.
Watching the door close, John’s smile faded. He turned to the assistant standing nearby and instructed, “Call back and make sure someone thoroughly investigates Bruno Young
He didn’t believe Cohen’s words. The Lindsey family and the Broderick family did have a rivalry, but it was always a matter of business. Moreover, even though Malcolm was ruthless in business, he had never stooped to such underhanded tactics in private; there had to be something else behind the drugging incident.
“Yes, Mr. Broderick,” the assistant said..
Loretta soon emerged from her room, dressed in a more formal outfit: a light green chiffon ruffled blouse paired with white wide–leg pants. She looked sweet and refreshing, her long wavy hair cascading down her back, giving her a touch of queenly elegance.
John nodded, thinking that Loretta was the most beautiful girl in the world. They both got into the car and headed to the municipal building.
They were greeted by a sophisticated blonde woman in her thirties, dressed in a sharp business suit with her hair meticulously styled. She had a rather aloof demeanor and spoke bluntly. “Mr. Joiner is in a meeting. You can wait here, or if you can’t wait, you’re welcome to leave?
With that, she turned and walked away. Loretta frowned at the woman’s retreating figure, surprised by the way they treated foreign businessmen.
John seemed to sense her thoughts and explained, “People here generally look down on brands from abroad unless they can. prove their strength.”
Loretta nodded, choosing not to say more.
John and Loretta waited for nearly an hour before the woman who had brought them in appeared, accompanied by a middle–aged man.
The man, named Hayden Joiner, was broad–shouldered and heavyset, His eyes fixated on Loretta, who stood next to John. and he asked the woman behind him, “When did they arrive?”
“They came in while you were in your meeting,” she replied.
Hayden nodded and walked over to them.
John promptly greeted him. “Mr Joiner, hello! I’m John Broderick, the president of Broderick Group, from Zyntara. I called yesterday to arrange this meeting. Do you have time now to discuss Broderick Group’s entry into Elysium Plaza?”
Hayden’s gaze remained on Loretta, his eyes sparkling, but his fire was impassive as he said, “You want to discuss paperwork, right?”
“Yes,” Jolin said.
I’ve reviewed the materials you submitted, but the jewelry industry in Meridian is already saturated. It may be challenging

to break in,” Hayden said.

“That’s okay. Every jewelry brand has its unique creativity, and believe Broderick Group will find its share of admirers,” John didn’t give up.
“Is that so?” Hayden’s attention shifted back to Loretta, and he asked, “May I ask who this beautiful young lady is?”
As he spoke, his eyes raked over her, internally praising her figure and looks, thinking, “What a delight she would be! If only I could have some fun with her.’ A flicker of interest gleamed in his eyes.
John noticed this and was about to explode in anger
At that moment, Loretta tugged at John’s sleeve and locked eyes with Hayden, her expression calm. “One of my classmates is also from Meridian. He told me that his father is the mayor. Mr Joiner, why don’t we arrange to have a meal together?”
Hayden paused at her words, then his face registered surprise. “You’re classmates with Eric Henderson?”
“Yes. Should I call him now and confirm?” Without waiting for his response, Loretta pulled out her phone and dialed Eric, putting the call on speaker.
