Chapter 13
I sold my wedding dress.
It was a clear sign of the end between Ricky Grayton and me.
The house we were supposed to live in after marriage was one I had paid for. Now that
jcky had moved all his belongings out, I decided I didn’t want to stay there either. I sold
the property and bought a spacious new apartment.
I sent Ricky a message saying we were done.
He showed up outside my office, waiting for me. The moment he saw me, he grabbed my hand, his voice filled with urgency.
“Alexia, what’s wrong with you now? I’ve already told you that there’s nothing
inappropriate between Sharna and me. Why can’t you just believe me? If you break with
me, what am I supposed to tell my parents? What about my colleagues and friends? What will they think?”
Clearly, he still didn’t know that his sweet videos with Sharna had already made the rounds.
I let out a cold laugh, shook off his hand, and took out my phone. Opening one of Sharna’s videos, I threw the phone at his face.
He didn’t dodge, and a bruise immediately formed on his forehead. He stared at the video,
his eyes wide with shock as he watched the two of them passionately kissing.
“You said there’s nothing between you two? Then what is this?”
His
eyes
reddened as he suppressed his anger. He suddenly pulled me into an embrace.
“Enough. I know you’re upset because you care about me and love me. But what gives you the right to invade my privacy like this? Don’t you have any respect for me?”
“Isn’t it marriage you want? Fine, I’ll marry you. What more do you want from me, Alexia?”
Was he insane? He cheated and still expected me to respect him?

I shoyed him away forcefully and slapped him–twice.
“You want to know what I want? Fine. I want us to break up. From this moment on, we’re done. Don’t come looking for me again!
Ricky’s face turned pale. He stared at me in disbelief, and when he finally realized I was serious, he opened his mouth as if to say something.
But before he could speak, Sharna came running over, cutting him off.
“Alexía, you can’t marry him. I’m already pregnant with Ricky’s child,” she announced, clutching her stomach dramatically.
Ricky’s expression darkened, and I could see the gears turning in his head as he likely thought about how to explain this to his parents.
But to me, none of it mattered anymore.
I would always be grateful to his parents for their kindness to me.
But there was no way I’d marry a man like him and ruin my life.
In that moment, I finally understood–Ricky’s desire to marry me was never about love. It was because his parents liked me.
Without looking back, I walked away.
Behind me, Sharna clung to Ricky, crying and begging him to take responsibility.
