“OKAY,” Serena’s conscience gnawed away at her as she replied. She could have easily turned down his offer, but she knew it would only raise suspicion and lead to more questions. So instead, she reluctantly nodded and accepted it. “Are you still working?”
“Yeah, but I’m almost done. What about you?”
“I couldn’t fall asleep just yet, so I decided to pay my dad a visit in his study. Lately, our relationship had been getting better, and the pack’s reputation was improving as well–Crescent was no longer the center of gossip here in the east.” Serena smiled while speaking. She then leaned back on the table; her eyes fixated on the moon outside the window.
“That’s good to hear,” Alpha Perez smiled, for some reason, he could feel that his wife was smiling at the moment, “How about… Calix?”
“We talked once during my first day here, he asked me if I was uncomfortable with his presence because if I did, he would stay at the hotel. But I assured him that it wasn’t necessary, and we haven’t talked again.” Serena said honestly, knowing he was worried, “Now that I think about it, I haven’t seen him since then.”
“Hmm, it seemed he really had changed,” he commented, relieved that he had nothing to worry about when it came to her ex–husband
“Yeah, he really did.” She nodded in agreement, and a moment of silence hung between them before she broke it. She knew this would be their last conversation, so she didn’t want to waste any more time and get caught up in small talk. “You know, my life really changed ever since I met you.”
“This place used to suffocate me, but since you’ve been here with me, I feel more free… The past no longer holds any threat to me.” She began, “You, coming into my life was the greatest thing that happened to me, and I won’t stop thanking you for that.”
“I was glad that I participated in the war.” A smile spread across her face as she glanced down at the bracelet on her wrist. All the memories she had with Perez came flooding back and it made her emotional. Her eyes started to sting, and she knew it would only be a matter of time before tears fell, “What I’m trying to say is, thank you for coming into my life… I really enjoyed everything we had, and I love you…”
She bit her lips, trying her hardest to fight back the tears.
“I’m the one who should be saying that.” Alpha Perez replied on the other side of the phone, “You were the reason my life had meaning, and I was lucky enough to have the woman I desired to be my wife.”
“I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but you were my reason for joining the war. As soon as I heard you were there, I didn’t hesitate to join and us, being close to each other meant really a lot to me.” He added, “Even if we aren’t destined to be mates, I will do whatever it takes to make our own destiny together.”
“And I love you more than you imagined.” Alpha Perez let out a sigh, “Euck, I really missed you. It feels like forever since we were together. I can’t wait for time to pass faster so I can finally hold you in my arms again,”
“Me too,” Serena replied as she wiped away an escaped tear, “I should head to be now, I was starting to miss you so much that I might change my mind and go home earlier than planned”
“That sounds good to me, though.” Alpha Perez chuckled lightly “Just kidding, you should spend more time with your dad, it won’t be too long before you are going back so let’s both hang in there.”
“Yeah,” Serena nodded, and they said their ‘I love you‘ again before they hung up. As soon as she returned the telephone receiver to its stand, Serena allowed herself to release the breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. Her tears then began to trickle down her cheeks as she stood rooted to the spot, feeling completely overwhelmed by her emotion.
She couldn’t believe how much she had missed Alpha Perez and how talking to him on the phone had brought back all of their memories together. It was hard being apart from him for a few days, what more if it took months and years?

Chapter 70
When Alpha Robert heard her cries, he entered the study and consoled his daughter. Peeling a hand on her shoulder, Serena turned around to see her father standing there with a concerned expression on his face.
He didn’t question her why she was crying because he already knew the reason, instead, he wiped away the tears from his daughter’s cheek. Serena looked up at her father and could no longer hold back her emotions. She threw herself into his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
“It’s okay,” Alpha Robert whispered soothingly as he held his daughter close. “Let it all out”
After a few hours had passed, it was finally time for her to leave Alpha Robert then accompanied her and Annie to the back door where a car was waiting for them. She barely had fallen asleep, but since it was necessary for them to leave at dawn, she pushed herself to wake up early.
“I will keep in touch, Dad.” Serena said after hugging her father, “Once Alexia noticed that I was gone, she will likely reach out to Perez. If that happens, don’t try to stop her. By then, my nanny and I will already be on the island, so there’s no need to prevent her from telling my husband that I’ve left.”
She pulled away from the hug and stared at her father with a bitter smile on her face, her eyes still swollen from crying last night.
“If Perez ever comes asking about my whereabouts, please promise me that you won’t tell him. I can’t risk him coming after me and taking me back home… I don’t want our unborn child and I to be the reason he deviates from his plans.” Serena added before taking a deep sigh, “After giving birth and once my child is old enough, I’m going to think about whether I would come back or not.”
“Also, please take care of yourself. I know it was hard without an heir, but Calix promised me that he would do his best to help you run the pack.” She spoke softly before hugging her father one last time, “We’ll be going now, thank you for helping

“Don’t mention it,” He gave her a pat on the back before releasing her from the hug. There was still so much he wanted to say, but he didn’t want them to miss the ferry to the island. “Take care and keep me updated. When I have the time, I would discreetly visit you on the island, alright?”
“Okay, Dad.” Serena nodded and after that, she and Annie already got inside the car, waving goodbye as it drove off.
Serena sat in the car, watching as her father’s figure became smaller and smaller until it disappeared from her view. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of guilt wash over her for leaving her father behind. But she knew that this was the best decision for her and her unborn child.
As they drove towards the ferry terminal, Serena couldn’t stop thinking about how different things were going to be once they reached the island. For years, she had been living a life of luxury and convenience, with everything handed to her on a silver platter. But now, she was going to live a simple life on an isolated island with no access to technology and modern amenities.
Once they reached the terminal, Annie helped Serena with her luggage as they boarded the ferry. The ride was long but peaceful. Serena spent most of it staring out at the sea, lost in thought.
As they reached the Avalonia island, it was already afternoon, and Serena couldn’t help but feel a sense of serenity wash over her. The place was breathtakingly beautiful; white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, and lush green forests surrounded them.
The people around also seemed nice like how her father had described. They welcomed them with warm smiles and offered to show her around the town, but she refused since there was already someone who was supposed to pick them up.
“Luna Serena?” A man approached them at the port, his dark brown hair was tousled from the wind, and his sharp black eyes seemed to take in everything around him.
“Yes,” She nodded as he introduced himself as Marcus. He appeared younger than her father’s description of the vacation house’s caretaker, perhaps around Serena’s age, making her slightly doubtful.

Chapter 76
“Sorry, I know you find me suspicious. My father Diego was supposed to be here to pick you up, but he injured his back at his main work. So, I’m filling in for him.” Marcus explained and Annie held Serena’s hand as she nodded.
“I’s fine, he was truly Diego’s son. I’ve actually met him before when he was just a child.” Annie’s explanation helped Serena to relax, and all her doubts and concerns disappeared completely
“I’m sorry, I was just being careful since I’m not in a familiar place.” she apologized, looking at Marcus who smiled and offered to take their luggage for him to carry.
“It’s fine, Luna Sere-”
“Uhmm, just call me Serena,” she interjected, not wanting to be referred to as Luna in this place. After all, she didn’t want the attention that came with her title; she just wanted to blend in and live a normal life, and being called Luna would only bring unwanted assumptions about her status.
“Okay, Serena.”
