THE FOLLOWING MORNING, once Alpha Perez had departed from the packhouse, the entire pack was put on high alert. The warriors stationed at every corner of the estate were armed and ready for battle in case of an attack. Beta Jarren then instructed the servants to always leave the underground room open so that the children and elderly members living in the packhouse could hide immediately if needed.
Meanwhile, Serena stood on the balcony of her study, observing everyone as they worked tirelessly to prepare for whatever might happen. She held tight to the railing, recalling all the words of comfort and promises her husband had given her before he left. He had reassured her that he would come back unharmed, especially after she had made the decision to be marked when that time came.
Even though Serena trusted him to keep his word, she couldn’t help but feel anxious about it. Ultimately, she chose not to train in the forest today and instead focus on her duties as a Luna. As she took a deep breath, her thoughts were interrupted by something cold touching her forehead. She frowned and glanced up, only to see that snow was falling from the sky.
“You’ll catch a cold, get inside, Luna Serena.” Priscilla’s voice snapped her back to reality and she realized that her sister–in- law was still in the room. She gave a small nod before gently closing the door to the balcony and returning to her seat across from her. “The weather report predicted that the snow wouldn’t come until next week, but it seems like their forecast was incorrect.”
“I’ve been told that snow in the northern regions can be unpredictable; it may suddenly appear without warning,” Serena commented as she looked outside. “I guess that was true.”
“Right, this was one of the struggles here in the north. The winter season was unpredictable and harsh. We should definitely ask the warriors to gather more firewood later to keep everyone warm, especially since tonight was going to be very cold.” Priscilla didn’t waste any time as she started to organize the stack of papers in front of the center table in neat piles. She then excused herself and Serena nodded, watching her sister–in–law leave the room.
Reflecting on it now, this was her first time being left behind at the packhouse instead of accompanying Alpha Perez. As his Luna, she felt responsible for ensuring the safety and well–being of the pack while he was away. So, she spent most of her time in her studies, poring over the budget and planning for the purchase of more specialized bullets.
Her focus was so intense that she didn’t even realize how much time had passed. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, interrupting her work and causing her to set down the pen she had been holding.
“Come in,” She called out, and Beta Jarren entered the room a few seconds later. “What’s the matter?”
“I just received a report that two infected rogues were spotted on the border. Fortunately, our warriors were able to take them down using the special bullets but…” Beta Jarren’s words came to a hesitant stop, leading Serena to believe that whatever came next in his report would not be pleasant.
“But?” she asked, impatiently tapping her fingers on the table.
“But, the special bullets did not result in their death. Instead, they only weakened them for a brief period of time.” His response was neutral, but Serena could sense a hint of worry in his tone, “Still, it gave them enough time to shift into their wolf form and rip the necks of the infected rogues.”
“I see, that means they can’t die easily.” She let out a sigh and placed her elbows on the desk, placing her hands together under her chin. “Alright, then-”

A chill ran down Serena’s spine as the bell signaling a border attack echoed through the pack house. She exchanged worried glances with the beta before hurrying out of the room. The servants looked anxious, but she tried to calm them and assured them that everything was under control. After that, she went outside with Jarren and met Priscilla who had just gotten from informing the warriors to gather some firewood.
“Luna! Beta! The border was under attack, and infected rogues were targeting our warriors. We needed to send additional support immediately.” He frantically exclaimed, clearly stressed out due to the situation they found themselves in. As much as possible, Serena tried to stay composed and quickly requested reinforcements from Gamma Taylor to help defend their

“We had a limited supply of special bullets, so we had to be selective about who we gave our firearms to. So, make sure that only those with good aim would be entrusted with them, in order to avoid wasting it. Also, according to Jarren, the bullets can’t kill the rogue alone; they only weaken them.” She explained as Taylor nodded in understanding, “I’ll leave it up to you to decide on the strategy, and you can go with them. Jarren and will remain here to ensure that everything is safe and
secure.”
“Right, we need to kill the rogues before they pass the border because once they do, everyone in the pack house and other areas would be in danger.” Gamma Taylor said before he excused himself and made a move right away. Serena then reminded him to take care before she turned her attention to Jarren as he began speaking.
“Shouldn’t we inform Alpha Perez about this?”
“I’m certain that the train has already reached the capital. If we tell him now, he may not even go to the palace anymore,” she replied, forcing herself to stay calm and composed. After all, panicking in this situation would only cloud her thinking. “For now, let’s just make sure that we have an adequate number of reinforcements available to be sent to protect the borders.”
“Also, get in touch with the other alpha leaders we command and notify them to stay on high alert for potential attacks. I believe our pack may not be the only target of the Alpha King this time. His ultimate goal was to weaken the Perez’s domain, so the attack could take place across all of the northern regions.”
“Shit, that old fart was really threatened by my brother.” Priscilla bit her nail, “I’ll go contact them right away.”
Serena nodded and watched as her sister–in–law and Beta Jarren entered the house together. Left alone, she gazed out at the falling snow, watching as it gradually blanketed everything in white. Her thoughts then turned to her husband, wondering what he was up to at that moment.
AS SOON AS Alpha Perez arrived at the palace, he was met with respectful greetings from all members of Alpha King’s pack. However, it was clear that there was underlying animosity in the atmosphere. But Perez didn’t let it bother him as he was already accustomed to this fake treatment whenever he visited the palace.
“Alpha Perez, thank you for coming despite the short notice.” the King’s Beta bowed to him a little as a greeting. “The King was currently in his study; I will escort you there.”
He motioned with his hand towards the study, signaling for Perez to follow. Perez couldn’t help but wonder why they still had to meet with such urgency when night had already fallen. Nevertheless, it was best to find out as soon as possible so he could head back home, as a nagging feeling in his stomach grew stronger by the minute.
When they arrived at the study, Perez stopped a few steps away from the door, waiting for the beta to announce his presence and wait for the King’s orders. However, none were spoken, causing him to frown.
“Alpha King? I’m going in.” the beta knocked before opening the door, but the King wasn’t there, “Apologies, Alpha Perez. Do
King? will come to get you once I have found him.” you mind resting in the guest room while I search for the
“All right,” He clenched his jaw but followed the beta to the room where he would be staying for the night. He wanted to ask why the king had summoned him, but he knew his beta well enough to know that he would only say that the reason was known only by the king.
As soon as he stepped into the guest room, a frustrated sigh escaped his lips, and he collapsed onto the bed. He couldn’t help but wonder what was going on in his territory at that very moment. This was the first time he had left the north without Serena, and he was sure she must be feeling anxious and concerned for him by now. He sat up and scanned the room, hoping to spot a telephone, but unfortunately, there was none to be found.
He sighed again before getting up, determined to make the call, But as he rose to his feet, he felt his wolf stirring inside him, sensing a familiar scent in the air. He knew it couldn’t be mistaken and with a sense of urgency, he quickly opened the door to find Agnes standing there.
