Kathryn’s POV:
Why did Lucian suddenly throw a box at me?
I puzzled over it as I opened the packaging, only to be greeted by a dazzling gemstone necklace.
It was the one I had admired last month; I had casually taken a photo while trying it on and sent it to Lucian, hoping to find a topic to chat about with him or perhaps to hear him compliment how beautiful it looked.
I never expected he would buy it directly.
Over the past three years, although Lucian had always been busy and rarely returned home each month, he had never come empty- handed.
The gifts he gave me most frequently were various types of jewelry, particularly necklaces.
I even had to clear out a room just to store these pieces. Late at night, I would often wander into that room, feeling as if Lucian were right beside me.
I had once thought this was Lucian’s unique way of expressing his feelings for me.
He probably thought I was truly obsessed with them, believing that any piece of jewelry could easily win me over.
Beep, beep! The sound of a car horn broke my train of thought.
Lucian’s car pulled up next to me. He rolled down the window, his face cold as he said, “Get in!”
Huh? What is he doing now?
“Get in!” he repeated impatiently, stepping out of the car to open the door for me. “Get in, I’ll drive you home.”
Lucian sounded reluctant. “Don’t worry, I’ll take you back to where you’re currently living!”
I tightened my coat as the wind in the parking lot was a bit chilly.
It wasn’t a good time to catch a cab anyway, so I got into his car with a cold expression.
We rode in silence. Lucian’s phone rang several times, but he didn’t answer.
It wasn’t until he dropped me off at the entrance of my building that he finally spoke. “I have to get back to the company to handle…”
We were getting divorced, so who cared what he planned to do next?
I interrupted him, “You can go now!”
After saying that, I went upstairs without looking back.
Once I reached my floor, I discreetly pulled back a bit of the curtain from the second–floor window to look down. I found that Lucian’s car was already gone.
That jerk! I threw the gift box hard onto the couch.
Time flew by. In the past few days, Esther and I were busy preparing the gown orders for Gladeast Entertainment. Soon, it would be time for the fashion gala hosted by Gladeast.
Esther excitedly handed me two invitations. “Cornelius sent new invitations. He wrote our names separately. Now we can enter openly.”
I smiled and said, “Then keep it safe. Soon we’ll be people who have attended a private gala.”
Gladeast was a top–tier entertainment company in the industry. Although it was a private party, almost every industry titan was present at the manor tonight.
The weather this season was chilly at night. Since I had recovered from my fever, I hadn’t been feeling well. Esther had come to promote us, so she found a corner for me to stay while she socialized with the rest.
Just as I sat down, I heard a familiar voice not far away.
“What’s wrong with you?”
I turned my head to see Juliette standing in front of a girl wearing a cloisonné velvet dress. The gown she was holding had a glaring wine stain that was still dripping.
Chapter 24
“I’m sorry, Ms. Pearce. I didn’t mean to,” Ophella, named Ophelia awkwardly said as she put down her wine glass and wiped Juliette’s gown with a tissue.
Juliette took a step back, disdainfully saying, “Don’t touch it. You’ll ruin it.”
Ophelia’s hand froze midair awkwardly “I’m sorry. I have a clean gown in my RV. Would you like to change into it?”
“Who wants your dress?” Juliette replied angrily.
Ophelia found herself in a difficult position as the commotion attracted quite a few people’s attention. Ophelia took a deep breath, straightened her back, and cautiously asked, “What do you suggest I do?”
“Pay for it.” Juliette sounded impatient. “This was specially customized for me by Lucian at Lush Moon. You know, Serenity’s husband passed away recently, and she hasn’t been accepting orders. It was hard to get her make this one piece for me.”
Ophelia’s eyes widened in shock. “How much is it?”
“Eight hundred thousand.”
