Kathryn’s POV:
Chapter 21
Hmm? Could he be plotting something? I eyed him warlly, refusing to give him a direct answer. “What is it.”
Cornelius raised an eyebrow a fraction. “It’s not anything major. I just wanted to ask if you could help introduce me to Serenity again. Last time, you guys just up and left, causing my office doorstep to nearly get trampled by my clients who insisted on a collaboration.”
Esther’s heart has been bleeding over the loss of Gladeast as a major client. Unexpectedly, they came knocking on the door. This is great!
I put on an act of being conflicted for a moment.
Seeing that I didn’t immediately agree, Cornelius thought I was truly feeling conflicted. “I’m also aware that she has recently lost her spouse and is indeed in a bad state of mind. There’s no need to force it. I’ll try again when there’s another opportunity next time.”
Naturally, I couldn’t allow the opportunity that was already within grasp slip away.
I immediately said, “It’s okay. Serenity’s husband has already been burled. It isn’t a problem.”
Indeed, Lucian might as well have been dead. Therefore, I felt no guilt about that lie.
I then turned around and located my phone. I gave Esther a call, asking her about the matter of the contract.
Esther instantly understood my meaning and replied over the phone, “Hold on. I’ll be there in no time!”
Half an hour later, she arrived at the hospital room in a rush, armed with the contract and a portion of the design drafts.
Since we had already discussed things with Cornelius last time, all the details had been communicated clearly, and there was no need for further confirmation.
This time, Cornelius was in a hurry to sign the contract, so he naturally wouldn’t nitpick over the details of the contract. In less than ten minutes, we had reached an agreement right there at the hospital room table.
When the time came to sign, Cornelius meticulously reviewed the signature and design drafts once more. Upon seeing the design drafts, he hesitated for a moment. My heart, along with Esther’s, leaped into our throats. He has already signed, so he can’t back out
now.
Luckily, he didn’t say anything further. After politely taking his leave, he left with the contract in hand.
After he had left, Esther dropped her previously feigned calm and composed act. With her eyes widened, she asked me, “When did you get involved with Cornelius? Did Lucian threaten you again?”
“Huh? Isn’t he a friend of
your
brother’s?”
Hearing that, Esther was downright bewildered.
The two of us exchanged a glance, only then realizing that Felipe stood us up.
Esther rolled her eyes in fury and promptly sent Felipe a voice message. She reprimanded him thoroughly, reducing him to dirt without using any profanities before blacklisting him.
Well… there’s really no need for her to go this far.
Esther flicked her short blue hair. “By the way, Kathryn, I picked out a few gowns for you this morning. Try them on later. The invitations to Gladeast’s fashion gala were originally just something I got casually. But now that we’re collaborating with them, we must make an appearance. There will be quite a few celebrities, rich wives, and socialites at that time! This will be beneficial to our publicity.”
After some thought, I nodded in agreement. “Okay. There aren’t many samples left at home. The gowns you snagged were probably from the last fall collection, right? We should make new ones. After all, it wouldn’t look good if we turn up in outdated styles?”
Esther’s eyes lit up. “Really?! It’s been a long time since I last wore a gown you designed!”
She had sold off most of my designs for money, hardly ever able to bring herself to wear them usually.
Laughing, I reassured, “Don’t worry. You’ll definitely outshine everyone!”
Esther giggled wickedly. “No, no. If anyone is going to outshine everyone else, it’ll certainly be you, Kathryn!”
Cornelius‘ POV:
Chapter 21
I had always had a peculiar hobby. Since young, I’ve been fascinated by writings, especially those that are aesthetically pleasing and bear a distinctive personal style.
After every contract signing, I habitually flipped to the signature at the end to see if the other person’s writing was pleasing to the
eye.
Having signed the contract with Serenity this time, I also flipped to the signature out of habit. But then, I also flipped through the design drafts.
Suddenly, the pace at which I did so slowed. I noticed that the signature beneath the drafts was entirely different from the writing I had just seen of Esther’s.
A person’s signature and writing couldn’t possibly be different.
Immediately, I looked up and scrutinized the two human females before me.
Could it be that Kathryn is actually Serenity?
If I were to lay eyes on Kathryn’s signature, I would be able to tell whether she was Serenity.
For that reason, I purposely visited Lucian’s office.
As soon as I stepped in, I was taken aback by the strong stench of blood on him. “You’re hurt, Lucian?”
Lucian didn’t answer my question. Instead, he teleported to my side, sniffing at me.
Suddenly, he reached out and seized my neck. “Why do you carry her scent?”
