Chapter 10
Lucian’s POV:
I glanced at the debris scattered across the floor, feeling a surge of irritation. I had assumed she was simply throwing a tantrum before this, but to my surprise, she was now bringing up a divorce yet again.
“Do you really want to divorce me?” I managed to squeeze out these few words, holding back my anger.
Kathryn raised an eyebrow. “I do. Even if you tear it up, I’ll just print another one. You’ll sign it, and then we’ll make our way to City Hall to finalize the divorce.”
I steadily gazed at my Luna before me.
In our three years of being partners, she wasn’t the most suitable Luna for our pack. Being a human, she couldn’t bear the responsibility of protecting the pack alongside me.
She was delicate and timid, yet she treated my family with the utmost kindness. My grandfather was particularly fond of her. Toward me, she was nothing short of attentive, always striving to please.
As my personal Luna, she was indeed up to the mark.
But now, it seemed as if she had become a completely different person.
Looking at her face, once fair and radiant, it was now marred by an impatience that was entirely unlike her. The words that flowed from her glossy red lips were as cold as ice; it was clear she couldn’t wait to leave me.
I felt a pang in my heart as I avoided her eyes. “You… you should think it over,” I struggled to say.
With that, I turned and headed toward the bedroom.
Alas, from behind, came the woman’s frosty tone. “There’s no need for that. I’ll see you at the entrance of City Hall tomorrow morning at nine.”
Kathryn’s POV:
I thought I had prepared myself–until I brought up meeting him at City Hall. My heart still ached, as if it was being stabbed by a million needles. Half of my body felt numb, and I couldn’t even remember how I left the Gandillon residence.
Upon returning to the atelier in a daze, I flopped onto the bed. It was only then that I belatedly realized the pain that was rolling in my stomach.
Clasping a hand over my mouth, I rushed into the bathroom, expelling everything I had eaten and drunk that night. Far from easing, the pain in my stomach only intensified, burning like a raging fire.
I had gastritis, so each flare–up was agonizing. However, it had been a long time since the last episode, and I had grown complacent, forgetting the pain. I didn’t even bring my medication when I moved out. The short walk from the bathroom to the bed had me breaking out in a cold sweat. Despite the pain, I managed to call Esther.
The phone rang for quite some time, but no one picked up. She drank with me tonight, so she’s probably sleeping like a log by now.
It hurts so much. I’m not going to die from this, am I?
I scrolled through the contacts on my phone until I landed on Lucian’s name.
After much hesitation, I ended up dialing his number.
The first call went unanswered.
The second call was picked up after just two rings. A woman’s voice came through from the other end,

sounding much like Juliette’s. “Hello? Who is this?”
He was alone when he left the mansion just a while ago. Now, he was already with Juliette.
I felt like I had lost my mind to even consider asking for his help.
Seeing that I remained silent, the woman over the line probed, “Is this Kathryn? Do you want something from Lucian?”
Not wanting to hear any nonsense about Lucian taking a bath, I hung up the phone immediately. Curled up on the carpet, I scrunched my nose and added all of his contact information to my blacklist.
After putting down my phone, my vision went dark and I passed out.
“Kathryn?”
The very next morning, I was awoken by Esther’s voice.
She was still in her pajamas, clearly having rushed over without even having time to change her clothes. She felt guilty and blamed herself. “Did your stomach act up? I’m sorry. I passed out yesterday and didn’t hear your calls.”
I couldn’t afford to waste time, jolting upright immediately. My first question was, “What time is it?”
“It’s nine o’clock.”
My mind was hit with a sudden jolt.
I’m done for.
“I’m supposed to meet Lucian at City Hall to finalize our divorce.”
Lucian absolutely hated it when people were late.
I scrambled to pick up the phone that had fallen onto the carpet. Then, I unblocked, Lucian and hurriedly dialed his number.
The call connected and I asked tentatively, “Are you still at City Hall? I’m on my way there now.”
Lucian’s frosty voice came through. “Are you really at City Hall?”
I naturally assumed that he had already arrived. While getting up to dress myself, I apologized over the phone, “Not yet. I’m sorry, I’ll try to be there as soon as possible–say twenty minutes. Is that okay?”
“Forget it,” Lucian snapped. “I’m about to leave!”
