Chapter 79: A New Boyfriend
Under the blue sky, with white clouds and the sea, Chloe lay on a beach chair in a bikini, sipping coconut juice and wearing sunglasses. She looked completely relaxed.
A couple of days ago, she had been resting at home when Mia called and invited her to go on a trip.
Chloe hadn’t planned on going, but when she heard that Mia had successfully completed a project, earning a large bonus and two round–trip tickets, she eagerly agreed to join the trip.
They went to a recently developed island. The facilities were excellent, but there weren’t many people around, making their stay extra comfortable. After all, both of them preferred avoiding crowded places.
“I thought you’d bring along your new boyfriend this time, but you only invited me. I’m not quite used to that!” Chloe said, teasingly.
Mia felt a bit speechless at Chloe’s remark. Did Chloe really think she was the type to abandon her friends for a guy?
She wasn’t that kind of person at all. Mia had even cleared her schedule just for this spontaneous trip with Chloe. Since it was a “girls–only” trip, why would she bring a guy along? That would be ridiculous! “You always think of me that way! I’m not that kind of person, okay? Besides, hanging out with you is so much fun. It’s only because your head is always buried in books that you end up stuck on one guy for so long. Unlike you, I believe that to live happily, you need to keep welcoming new, happy people into your life,” Mia said, playfully but with a hint of disapproval.
Mia had initially thought about inviting her younger, cute boyfriend along, but she realized this trip was for her and Chloe. Why would she want a man tagging along?
Mia took a few pictures of the waves and then turned her camera toward Chloe.
Even though the beach and scenery were beautiful, Chloe, with her calm and relaxed demeanor, was the most stunning view.
“Don’t you ever get tired of studying all the time? If I were in your shoes, spending all day with a book, I’d be exhausted,” Mia said, admiring Chloe’s dedication.
She found Chloe impressive because, unlike herself, Chloe could stay focused and study for hours at home. Mia, on the other hand, had barely managed to make it into college, and that alone had been a huge accomplishment for her.
“We’re just good at different things,” Chloe replied. “For example, what you’re doing now–there’s no wayt could do it. Weren’t you about to go on a date? Why are you back here? Didn’t that guy meet your standards?”
Earlier, Mia had spotted a handsome guy not far away After snapping a few photos of him, she had told Chloe she was going to approach him. Chloe, familiar with Mia’s nature, had only reminded her to be safe before watching her walk off.
But Mia was back quickly. Did things not go as planned?
That was unusual, given that Mia’s efforts rarely ended in failure. If this attempt had failed, it must have been the guy who wasn’t reliable.
Thinking of the guy, Mia sighed. “You know my type–older guys don’t interest me at all. I like them younger, especially the cute, sunny ones. That guy was handsome and had great muscles, but he’s older than me. Plus, he already has a girlfriend! Can you believe it? Flirting with me when he’s already taken. If I see his girlfriend, I’m definitely telling her.”

Mia was clearly annoyed about the situation. She had been hoping for a fun fling but found herself with nothing. Chloe couldn’t help but laugh at Mia’s frustration.
“Alright, alright. But seriously, who’s the guy you’re seeing now? Is it the one I met last time, or have you already switched? You go through them so quickly I can’t even keep track of their names,” Chloe teased.
Mia was always switching boyfriends, never sticking with the same one for long, so Chloe had no idea who she was dating now.
Mia grinned. “Of course, it’s not the same one! But it doesn’t matter if you don’t remember his name. I’ll probably be with someone else next time, and I’ll introduce him to you then.”
Chloe shook her head, amused by Mia’s carefree attitude.
Then, with her eyes sparkling, Mia brought up something else. “By the way, I’ve been meaning to ask you- haven’t you thought about finding someone new? A handsome guy, maybe? You can’t stay stuck on one tree forever! Why not consider my brother? Sure, he’s always busy with his experiments, but that won’t stop you from finding someone else. As long as you manage your time well, it could work out perfectly.” Chloe fell silent for a moment, unsure how to respond. Sometimes Mia’s way of thinking was quite ahead of its time.
“There’s no need. I’m happy with my life as it is. I’ve got my studies and my books, and I don’t have the energy for a relationship right now. Besides, if you’re so confident, why don’t you try saying that to your brother’s face and see how he reacts?” Chloe joked.
Mia clicked her tongue. She would never dare say that to her brother in person, which was why she only brought it up with Chloe.
Honestly, if her brother weren’t so obsessed with his experiments, Mia thought he and Chloe might have had a chance to develop something.
